Strong with powerful partners
MWB Marine Services expands service portfolio – realignment successful
The engine experts of the GDD Group convince their customers with competence and flexibility. This is confirmed in the first assessment of MWB Marine Services GmbH.
The new alignment of the engine division in the GDD Group has proven itself in a very short time. “The combination of our traditional strengths and the additional expertise through our new industrial partner has further strengthened our capabilities,” Jörn Holst, Technical Director of MWB Marine Services GmbH, summarizes the first seven months. Among other things, the offer for customers was significantly expanded. The company, founded in the summer of 2017, is a joint venture of the GDD Group with a leading industrial company.
Classic strengths supplemented by new offers
MWB Marine Services directly follows the tradition of MWB Motorenwerke, which belongs to the nucleus of the GDD Group. For decades, the MWB experts have developed comprehensive expertise for all work on large engines for operation at sea and on land. In recent months, new tasks, such as an expanded spare parts trade, have been added to the classic strengths in the servicing, repair and maintenance of gas, diesel and dual-fuel engines as well as transmissions and power units. “We can deliver virtually everything that our customers need,” Holst assures. Trading in OEM and OEM parts is now flourishing so well that the company has already employed additional staff.
Additional knowledge and competences through new partner
MWB has been an all-rounder in dealing with engines from various manufacturers – even before the realignment. ” Through our new partner, however, we have acquired additional knowledge and skills, both for engine types and technologies, so that we now have an even broader base,” emphasizes the Technical Director of MWB Marines Services GmbH. Among other things, MWB employees used the training center for further training courses in the area of electrics and electronics.
Holst knows from numerous discussions with customers that the business partners appreciate and reward the combination of the proven and the new. MWB Marine Services is located directly on the German Dry Docks site in Bremerhaven’s Kaiserhafen. “Therefore, we have berths and crane capacities directly in front of our workshops,” explains Holst. Thanks to their close connection, MWB and German Dry Docks can support each other at any time: “This is important not only for large projects, but also in everyday life, because it can save time and money for the customer”, he emphasizes: “Together we form one of the most efficient repair and conversion centres in Northern and Central Europe.”
Keeping an eye on cost reduction for the customer
Despite the ideal conditions in the Kaiserhafen, customers do not necessarily have to send their ships to Bremerhaven for repairs or maintenance work. Increasingly, MWB specialists go on board all over the world and sometimes accompany the ships on individual sections of the journey. This saves the customer long journeys and shortens any downtime. “We offer this option not only for emergency repairs, but also for routine work,” emphasizes Holst. This service is based on the same idea that led to the founding of MWB Marine Services: “We offer our customers comprehensive services and reduce their costs wherever possible.”
